Well, I was born in El Salvador, Central America. My parents brought my fraternal twin brother and I to the United States at the age of 4. I went to 10th street school until the 4th grade, then we moved and I attended Budlong Avenue Elementary. Yes! I too was a student here. I went to John Muir Middle school and then Van Nuys High School because I wanted to meet new people and make brand new friends.
After graduating from high school in 1988 it was time for college. California State University of Los Angeles or Cal State LA for short was the next educational stop for me. I love science so much I decided to major in Biology. I originally wanted to be a doctor. I wanted to help people. I needed to work while in college so that I could pay for my books, classes, clothes, gas, etc.... so I went back to Budlong Avenue Elementary and worked as a teacher assistant (T.A.). I really liked it and decided to become a teacher. I wasn’t going to be helping sick people, but instead I’m helping young people get ready for higher learning. I’ve been teaching now for 29 years. Believe it or not! I've taught grades 2 - 5. I really like teaching upper grades. :) I am also 2011 -2012 LAUSD Teacher of the Year. I'm very proud of this!
When I’m not in the classroom, I like to hike in the mountains around Los Angeles, go for a bike ride or my favorite, RUN. I love to travel to islands and take pictures of the beautiful water and amazing wildlife. I’ve been to Cabo, Cozumel, Curaçao, Bermuda, Antigua, Hawaii, Australia, Turkey, Rome, Malta, Italy, Aruba, Bahamas, Grand Cayman, and Spain. My dream vacation is Bora Bora, some day I plan to go there. I enjoy computers and all sorts of electronic gadgets. I love my iPhone! I enjoy reading science fiction books. Michael Crichton is my favorite author, he wrote Jurassic Park and a bunch of other great books. Check him out. I like listening to all types of music, I don’t sing, so don’t ask me to sing.I enjoy running and doing obstacle racing. My favorite obstacle racing is Spartan Racing. It's a very tough race, but I love every bit of it. Well, that’s all I can think of right now.
Bye,
Mr. Cabrera
